Via Michelle Malkin, Gwen Ifill, the moderator for tomorrow night’s vice-presidential debate, has a book coming the day of the Inauguration of the next President, called Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama. This is what I like to call a Glaring Conflict of Interest. Her book will not exactly be flying off the shelves if McCain wins. Of course, she may ask completely unbiased questions, but the appearance of a conflict of interest remains. At a minimum, she should disclose this at the beginning of the debate and let each viewer judge.

Update: I like the objection Jim Geraghty proposes Palin use in case of any bad questions from Ifill:
“Gwen, that sounds like the kind of question one would ask if one had a financial stake in the election of Barack Obama — like a book about him coming out early next year or something.”
Or maybe she can suggest a topic for Gwen’s next book: Breakthrough: Politics and Gender in the Age of Palin.
