Biden v. Palin

I’m reading a lot this morning about how authoritative Biden was, and I agree that he did better than expected.  For a several of Palin’s attacks he was able to deflect quite well.  But only by flat-out lying!  Politics, by nature, induces a lot of truth-bending, but I’m talking completely false statements.

I shouldn’t be, but I’m floored by the double standard here.  If Sarah Palin gets facts wrong, she’s dim-witted redneck.  Biden gets half of everything he says wrong, and he’s a good debater with a command of facts.  Luckily, the American people very good B.S. detectors.

Here’s a few of the most blatant lies from the McCain campaign’s list:

1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.

2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.

4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.

  1. In regards to numer 4 on that list. A Senator should never vote against a bill simply because it is believed that the President will exercise his veto authority. After all they do maintain the ability to override such a veto.

  2. Joe Biden is trying to argue that Barack Obama and John McCain both voted not to fund the troops. While John McCain (and Joe Biden!) did vote against a troop funding bill that included the timeline, he voted for a troop funding bill that did not, and which ultimately passed and President Bush signed. Obama voted for a bill with timelines, but against a bill without, so it’s clear that the timeline was a greater priority for him than funding the troops.
